Snow is Fun! Snow is fun to play in and make snow men and make forts and blah blah blah!

Driving in my neighborhood this morning, my Astra somehow lost all steering input(READ AS UNDERSTEER) for at least two seconds and crashed head-on into a "shoveled mountain" of snow and ice at about 15mph. First time I've ever crashed into anything or had an accident like this. Luckily I'm fine but sure as hell pissed at myself. The most damage is on the left side; the bumper split from the body and one of the fog lights and lower grille broke out. There's also a hairline fracture on the lower middle section of the bumper that can't be seen from this view.

Kinja'd!!!

The damage to me looks either light or moderate but the bumper held up well I think? I'm no crash expert but it looks like it can be easily repaired but it's definitely an eyesore. I've gotta take it to the dealer this week to hear the "damage".

What do you guys think? Expensive or cheap?

The front normally looks like this:

UPDATE:

I had some time to fully examine the front end after work and got the fog light back in it's place and the hairline fracture is much smaller from the looks of it. the whole repair might simply be snap and go but I won't know for sure until tomorrow!

UPDATE: Cars fixed enough to sell or trade in for the ST!

Probably right under 1000USD to fix with all new parts and paint.

I had the misfortune of dragging the front bumper of a vehicle over a piece of rebar that was sticking 2 inches past the top of a cement parking barrier that the bumper of said car would normally clear. The bumper itself somehow managed to live unscathed, but the attaching valence underneath was ripped to crap. I fixed it up and decided I wanted the special edition front bumper. With parts and paint it ran 800USD when all was said and done.

Sucks because I just got the tranny replaced for $2700 three weeks ago!

Can't wait to replace this with a Focus ST next month!

Shouldn't be anything too serious. I'd probably ignore the crack in the bumper, pop it back into place and reattach the lower grille and foglight and be done with it.

At worst you probably only broke some plastic clips and brackets for said foglight and grille. If so, you should be able to take the bumper cover off and fix those from behind with some epoxy.

$1.99, cheap enough...

Jokes aside, that is pretty minor of a hit, but sorry to see your whip get damaged

What about the lower part of the bumper and this part that's dragging about?

I can get a replacement bumper for $211 and fog lights for $50 a piece. I was planning on selling it to my mom's co-worker, but can't sell it like that. I need the money for a Focus ST and leaving at is wouldn't be to bright of an idea.

I need a new lower grille too maybe.

Oh, wow. I had a Twilight Blue 2008 Saturn Astra XR 3-Door myself for a few months before I bought my Charger. The reason why I traded it in was out of fear of paying for replacement parts in the case of an accident and paying for major repairs, like replacing a bum transmission. After all, GM only managed to sell 12,000 of these before they yanked the plug on Saturn. Who knows how many are left now.

But don't let my story discourage you. Fix it back. Hell, make it better. You know you want to do this ...

I already replaced the transmission with a used one for $2700. I've got a 5-door so that would be odd I think...

I'm going to fix back to as new as possible then sell it as planned.

Fortunately, I'm moving on to this(not this one in particular) :

Used transmission for $2,700 big ones? Ouch.

A five-door Astra with the OPC treatment would be odd? Hell no! Welcome to the world of phantom builds where all of those "what if's" actually happen. You know someone's wanted to that to their five-door Astra ...

Oh I don't doubt it! It's just not me. If I had a 3-door I'd be all over it haha!

I basically love-tapped a Lexus in my Outback XT and caused more damage than you did - looks like that'll basically buff right out! ;)

Funny i went from a Focus to the Astra which I think is a better car in every way... except gas mileage.
